D. Larry Brophy, Trustee

D. Larry Brophy is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native and an active member of the local Irish community.  He earned his
undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired in 2004 and spent his first two months in retirement studying Irish History & Literature at UCC in County Cork, Ireland. Since retiring Larry started his own business consulting firm D. L. Brophy & Associates Ltd. Larry belongs to the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 32 in Carnegie and the Knights of Equity Court 9 of Pittsburgh. He also is a member of the Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the  Irish  American Unity Conference. Larry has traveled extensively in Ireland, having made more than 40 trips over the past 30 years. He has also fundraised/supported the Cork-based program “Between” for more than 20 years.

Sarah McAuliffe-Bellin, Trustee

Sarah McAuliffe-Bellin is actively involved in the Irish American community. Chapter President of the Pittsburgh Chapter Irish American Unity Conference, she also serves as a trustee on IAUC’s National Board. She is a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, Maude Gonne — Division 32 and currently serves as the PA State Immigration & Legislation Chair for the LAOH. Sarah is a charter member of the Year of Remembrance Committee in Pittsburgh and wants to make more time to learn ceili dancing. Sarah’s paternal grandparents hail from Listowel, County Kerry and her maternal great-grandfather from County Armagh. She is married and the mother of two sons. Sarah works in autism research at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as a senior program coordinator.

Sandra Haas, Secretary

Sandy, a retired marketing professional, held various management positions during her 35-year banking career. In addition to serving as secretary of Conway Mill Trust, she is an active member and secretary of the local Pittsburgh, PA chapter of the Irish American Unity Conference. Sandy also belongs to Irish Northern Aid.  Her Irish roots are far-removed, but Sandy travels to Ireland at every opportunity.

Edward J. McManus, Treasurer

Ed is a retired engineer, having worked in various fields of engineering during his professional career. In addition to serving as treasurer of Conway Mill Trust, Ed is an active member of the Irish American Unity Conference. He also belongs to Irish Northern Aid and the Pittsburgh Ceili Club. Ed’s family roots are in County Donegal. He loves his native country and looks forward to his annual visit to Ireland, particularly Northern Ireland, and enjoying a pint of Guinness and conversation with the locals at the pub. One of Ed’s favorite spots in Northern Ireland is Derry, the walled city.

Mary Mannion, Director of Culture and Education

Mary is a retired educator and serves as the liaison between the Conway Mill Trust Board and the Conway Education Centre in West Belfast. She is active in Pittsburgh’s Irish-American community and a member of the Irish American Unity Conference. She served many years on Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Parade Committee and the Irish Society for Education and Charity. Conway Mill Trust’s educational merit grant program for the development of History, English and Math for adult students attending Conway Education Centre was named the Mary Mannion Merit Grant in honor of Mary’s lifetime commitment to teaching History, English and Reading.

Jim Caldwell, Publicity and Communications Director

Jim is retired, having worked for 35 years as an industrial salesman. He is well-known and very active in Pittsburgh’s Irish community. Besides his volunteer work with Conway Mill Trust, Jim is a long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Equity and is a founding member of the local chapter of the Irish American Unity Conference. Jim’s Irish roots are in Donegal, Galway and Tipperary.

Jean Kaniecki, Archives Director

Jean is the Archives Director for Conway Mill Trust and the wife of Conway Mill Trust’s president Bob Kaniecki.  Jean received her nursing degree from Misericordia School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her Irish roots are in Termon, County Donegal where she visits her family annually. Jean is interested in anything Irish. She is active in the Pittsburgh Ceili Club and the Irish-American Unity Conference and is a member of Irish Northern Aid.

Bob Kaniecki, President

Bob retired from executive positions at an international steel company but still consults on various construction projects.  He and his wife Jean travel annually to Ireland and have done so for over 20 years. In addition to his volunteer work with Conway Mill Trust, Bob is a member of Irish Northern Aid, the Irish American Unity Conference and the Pittsburgh Ceili Club.
